WHAT EXACTLY IS SUPER 8 FILM?
Introduced by Kodak in 1965, Super 8 film is the art of shooting motion pictures using Super 8mm film. It is not digital, but physical film that captures each frame in a way that digital video cannot fully replicate. It is known for its nostalgic, vintage aesthetic & organic, imperfect nature that feels more like a memory more than a perfectly polished production!
HOW DO I KNOW SUPER 8 FILM IS FOR ME?
It's really simple! If you appreciate a nostalgic, vintage vibe & want to remember your day through that timeless sort of lens, rather than (or in addition to) modern, digital video, Super 8 is for YOU.
HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN SUPER 8 FILM & DIGITAL VIDEO?
If having your day documented on video is of UTMOST importance to you, I would honestly go with BOTH if you have the means to do so. I would have digital as your main source of video & have Super 8 as more of a fun, unique add-on that you can show your children & grandchildren one day!
Something important to keep in mind when deciding between the two (if you are) is this: I personally do NOT capture sound when I shoot Super 8. This is something most digital videographers DO incorporate (i.e. capturing vows, private bride & groom interviews, kind words from loved ones, the full ceremony, etc.) There are possibly Super 8 videographers who DO capture sound, however, that is not something I am familiar or comfortable with at the moment. The only sound from the Super 8 video is the added music that would go over the final edited video - like you would see in any wedding video.
So with that being said... if certain aspects of your day that require sound are non-negotiable, then digital is a no-brainer! You can just have Super 8 as a special addition.
